Christening sandals (4 straps) – Free pattern

Bootie is to fit a 0-3 month old baby. US terms used.

No 5 or 8 cotton yarn

1, 75 mm steel hook

Some embellishments

2 x 55cm  10 mm organza ribbon

Sole

Row 1: Chain 13, mark, chain 3, 3dc in to marked stitch, 1 dc in each of next 11 ch, 8dc in last, on other side of ch, work 11 dc in next 11 ch, 4dc in last, sl st to top of 3 chain.

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in next 3 dc, 1 dc in next 11, 2dc in each of the next 8dc, 1dc in next 11 dc, 2dc in each of next 4, sl st to top of 3 ch.

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in same st, 1 dc in next, *2 dc in next, 1dc in next* repeat 2 times (4 reps), 1 dc in next 11 *2dc, in next, 1dc in next* repeat from *to* 7 times (8 reps) 1dc in each of next 11, 2dc in next, 1 dc in next, repeat 3 more times, sl st to top of 3 chain.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in same stitch and 1 sc in each st around. Sl st to ch. (70 sc)

Row 5: Work in back loops only, ch 1, sc in same st, 1 sc in each st around, sl st to ch. (70 sc)

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in same space repeat around through both loops. Fasten off

Sandal

Row 1: Find center stitch at front of bootie, mark. Count 4 stitches to the left and attach yarn. Ch 13 and sl st in 8^th stitch to the right (there must be 7 open stiches with marked one in the middle). Sl in next 2 st on sole, turn

Row 2: 1 dc in each of  6 ch, 3 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of  6 ch, skip 1 sc on sole and sl st in to next. Sl st in next 4 sc on sole, turn

Row 3: ch 7, skip first 6 dc, 1 sc in each of center 3 dc of previous row, ch 7, skip 3 sc on sole and sl st into next. Sl st in next 2 sc of sole, turn

Row 4: 1 dc in each of  7 ch, 1 dc in sc of previous round, 3dc in next sc, 1 dc in next sc, 1 dc in each of  7 chains, skip 1 sc on sole and slip st in next. Sl st in next 4 sc on sole

Row 5:  ch 8, skip 7 dc of previous round and 1 sc in each of the next 5 dc, ch 8, skip 3 sc on sole and sl st into next. Sl st in next 2 sc of sole, turn

Row 6: 1 dc in each of  8 ch, 1 dc in each of 5 sc, 1 dc in each of  8 ch, skip 1 sc of sole and sl st into next. Sl st in next 4 sc of sole. Do not fasten off or turn

Row 7:  ch 9, skip 8 dc of previous round and 1 sc in each of the next 5 dc, ch 9, skip 3 sc on sole and sl st into next. Sl st in next 2 sc of sole, turn

Row 8: 1 dc in each of  9 ch, 1 dc in each of 5 sc, 1 dc in each of  9 ch, skip 1 sc of sole and sl st into next. Sl st in next 4 sc of sole. Do not fasten off or turn

Row 9: sl st up 2 dc of strap just made, 1 dc in next sc of sole and in each sc around, sl st into the 2^nd dc at begin of strap. Turn

Row 10: ch 1, sc in each dc of previous round, turn.

Row 11: Ch 3, 1 dc in each sc of previous round. Ch 6, 3 dc in middle 3 dc of top strap, 6 ch, sl st to to of 3 ch.

Row 12: ch 5, skip 1 dc, tr in next, ch 1, tr in next, repeat around, skip 1 ch of 6 ch, 1 tr in next, skip 1 ch, 1 tr in next, skip last ch, tr in first dc of 3dc in previous round, ch 1, tr in last of 3 dc, skip 1 ch, tr in next, skip 1 ch, tr in next, skip last ch and sl st in 4^th of 5 ch at begin of round. (If you are using thinner ribbon the tr can be substituted with a dc)

Row 13: sl st in to 1ch space, ch 3, dc in same space, 2 dc in next 1 ch space, repeat around, sl st in top of 3 ch.

Row 14: ch 2, 2 hdc in same st as 2 ch, skip 1 dc, sl st into next, *ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, skip 1 dc, sl st into next*, repeat *to* around and fasten off.

Work row 14 around bottom of bootie (in front loops left open in round 5).

Embellish sandal as you desire. Weave ribbon through tr row and you’re done!!!
